GIVING CIRCLE

PLANNED GIVING

LEAVE YOUR LEGACY.

Your will or trust document provides a clear and specific understanding as to how you want to transfer your assets to the people you love—and to those charitable organizations that you have supported during your lifetime. As the ultimate charitable gift, you can make a bequest to NAMI Clackamas in your will or living trust to ensure the strength and success of our education, advocacy and public awareness programs for years to come.

If you are considering leaving a legacy gift to NAMI Clackamas in your will or trust, or by beneficiary designation, please feel free to reach out to us directly if you have additional questions or would like to learn about other ways to leave a Legacy Gift. Email gary@namicc.org

For your convenience we have provided sample language to share with your attorney to include NAMI Clackamas in your will.

Once you have determined that you would like to make a bequest to NAMI Clackamas, the following sample charitable bequest language may be used in your will or revocable living trust:

An Unrestricted Bequest:

“I give, bequeath and devise (the sum of $____), (describe real or personal property) or (____% of the residue of my estate) to be used for general purposes to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Clackamas County (NAMI Clackamas), a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization, EIN: 93-0967313 and located at 10202 SE 32nd Ave Ste 501, Milwaukie, OR 97222, or its successor organization.”

A Restricted Bequest (to support a particular program or area of interest to you. Please inform us if you would like to restrict your bequest to ensure that we are able to honor your wishes.):

“I give, devise and bequeath to National Alliance on Mental Illness of Clackamas County (NAMI Clackamas) (federal tax ID number 93-0967313), located at 10202 SE 32nd Ave Ste 501, Milwaukie, OR 97222, the sum of $_____ or ____% or real or personal property herein described, to be used for the purpose of _____________.”

A Residuary Bequest (which leaves any remaining assets from your estate after all other obligations have been met):

“I give, devise and bequeath to National Alliance on Mental Illness of Clackamas County (NAMI Clackamas) (federal tax ID number 93-0967313), located at 10202 SE 32nd Ave Ste 501, Milwaukie, OR 97222, all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, of every kind of description, wherever situated and whether now owned or hereafter acquired, including any property with respect to which I may have power of appointment.”

HOW IT WORKS:

You establish a fund at a sponsoring charity. This could be a community foundation, a public charity with a donor-advised fund program, or even one of the well-known investment companies that sponsor donor-advised funds. First, check with the fund sponsor about the minimum contribution to start a fund as it ranges from $5,000 to $25,000. Then, make an initial contribution to start your fund of cash or appreciated assets such as stocks or mutual funds. You’ll get an immediate income tax deduction and some sponsors will even let you name your fund.

Once established, you can suggest that your favorite public charities, such as NAMI Clackamas, receive grants from your fund. The grants can be relatively modest or larger for projects such as a capital campaign or a new building.

You do not get an additional tax deduction for these grants. You can also suggest which charities you want to have any remaining assets in your fund at your passing. NAMI Clackamas is grateful for gifts that come from donor-advised funds. If you are considering establishing a donor-advised fund we can suggest several fund sponsors for your review. You should also consult your professional advisor for their guidance.
